Abstract

Indonesian folklores are nowadays published in bilingual books. Their emergence can help the readers to become acquainted with the facts of existence of the Indonesian folklores and be able to understand the stories in different language. Furthermore, it is a great way to introduce the richness and diverse cultures of Indonesia to the readers, especially foreigners. The languages used in the books are Indonesian language (SL) and English (TL). However, the English translation unfortunately shows error. The errors may create undesirable impression towards the translation products and affect the quality of the books. To deduct those negative effects, this paper analyzed translation errors in bilingual Indonesian folklores books by using the types of translation errors from Newmark‟s theory and American Translator Association (ATA) framework of errors. There are 32 books collected, but only 24 books are chosen as the primary data. Qualitative method is applied to gain the result. The finding shows that linguistic errors mostly occur and errors in grammar lead other types in linguistics errors. The result of the analysis indicates that the translation errors found because the translator‟s ignorance and he has lack of comprehension about English.
