Abstract
Withdrawal is the decreasing ability to socialize and increased
maladaptive behavior that appears in withdrawal clients. If left untreated,
withdrawal symptoms may worsen the patient's condition, which may lead to the
emergence of hallucinations and even the risk of suicide. This study used quasiexperimental
design, with sampling method using total sampling, aimed to explain
the effect of generalist interventions to withdrawal on the change of social skills
and adaptive behavior. The population of this study consisted of 39 clients in
Gelatik and Kenari wards, Menur Mental Hospital, Surabaya. A number of 36
respondents were found to meet the inclusion criteria. The independent variable
was generalist interventions to withdrawal, and the dependent variable was the
ability to socialize and withdrawal behavior. Data collecting was performed using
observation sheets on abilities and behavior. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon
Signed Rank test and Mann-Whitney T test. Results showed signficant increase (p
= 0.000) in sociability in group receiving generalist interventions to withdrawal
and significant increase in adaptive behavior (p = 0.005). Based on the analysis,
it can be concluded that the generalist intervention to withdrawal can improve the
ability of socializing and adaptive behavior in withdrawal clients. Based on the
study, optimal provision of generalist interventions to withdrawal along with indepth
approach can improve social skills and adaptive behavior in withdrawal
clients. Therefore, the provision of more effective generalist interventions and
more in-depth approach are needed to improve social skills and adaptive
behavior of withdrawal client.
