Abstract
This research aims to analyze the building of counter-discourse against stereotyping of radicalism and terrorism among Komunitas Muslimah Bercadar (KMB) in urban and rural areas in East Java Province. To analyze the object, the researcher uses thetheory on stereotype of Barker while discussion of counter discourse applies the concept from Terdiman and Macgilchrist. The method of the research is qualitative with ethnography fieldwork. This study finds that the stereotype circulates both in urban or rural areas against the members of KMB are two kinds; more toleration in urban while exclusion practices in rural areas. The efforts to counter the discourse of the cadar wearers as related to radicalism and terrorism emerge through various activities in public space.
