Abstract
Cat’s whisker or Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon stamineus Benth.) is one of herbal plants in Indonesia which was reported could reduce blood glucose level in alloxan induced-rats. However, dry extract of Orthosiphon’s leaves has not known its activity in diabetic animal. This aimed study was to analyze the influence of dry extract of Orthosiphon’s leaves on blood glucose of alloxan induced-mice (i.p.). Blood glucose level was observed since 7 days. Random blood glucose was evaluated by using Easy Touch® Glucometer kit. Percentage of reducing blood glucose level was analyzed statistically by ANOVA One Way and further comparison among groups were made according to post hoc LSD. The result showed that dry extract of Orthosiphon’s leaves at dose 12 mg/20g body weight can reduce blood glucose level significantly. Thus, this investigation showed that dry extract of Orthosiphon’s leaves has an antidiabetic activity.
