Abstract

First of all, there were basically three main problems experienced by the tour guide and staff in Malang Tourist Information Center (MTIC) such as listening problems, lack of local culture, and lack of Language fluency. First was about listening problems, this case happened because of the situation of tourism places were so crowded. The situation was affected by the amount of the tourists in that places. Most of the listening problems that I found was about misheard that could bring misunderstanding during the interpreting activity. Second was about lack of local culture in the terms of word culture. The difference ways of thinking about some words could have an impact to the interpretation. So, that was why educating about word culture is really important in interpreting. Last was about lack of Language fluency, in this case I observed the way of the staff in Malang Tourist Information Center (MTIC) did the interpreting. I found some grammatical errors during the interpreting activity. This case happened caused by the lack of understanding structure.
