Abstract
Slip of the ear is a phenomenon that can occur because the listener fails to understand the intended utterances in a conversation. The aim of this study is to determine the types of slip of the ear and the most type that occurred in noisy situations based on the theory of slip of the ear by Bond (2005). The study participants consisted of 40 Indonesian adults living in the city of Surabaya. The method used in this study is by giving a listening task to participants who must complete 10 sentences based on the recording they hear. The result of this study is that there are 238 wrong answers and 7 blank answers with 652 occurrences, which can be categorized into 12 types of 14 types of Slip of the Ear, namely vowel misperception, consonant misperception, segment order, phonological reduction, language varieties, nonwords, content and function words, morphological errors, well-formed and ill-formed utterances, constituents, argument structures and functions, and semantical misperception. This study shows that the most frequent type is well-formed and ill-formed misperception which is 31.90%. The conclusion is that the phenomena of Slip of the Ear experienced by adults in a noisy state indicates that participants tend to change words in a sentence, but participants still consider grammar rules that cause the types of well-formed and ill-formed misperception.
