Abstract
This semantic study is about the lexical and syntactical ambiguity in pun posts by an instagram account @Pun_Bible. The goals of this study are to identify the words and sentences that have lexical and syntactical ambiguities appeared in instagram account @pun_bible pun posts and to explain the ambiguity effects of lexical and syntactical ambiguity in @Pun_Bible pun posts. This instagram account provides a pun, a sort of word play, to give the audience an entertainment by creating puns. The writer aimed to inform the instagram user that the instagram pun posts by @Pun_Bible had several effects of ambiguity, namely humorous and ironic effects. The writer had observed the instagram account for lexical and syntactical ambiguity as well as taken the data as many as 43 instagram pun posts by downloading the photos from the account which are limited by the date of posts within May up to October 2019. The main point of this semantic phenomenon is that the instagram pun posts provide the audience the feeling or circumstance after reading the posts either humorous or ironic effect. For collecting the data for his study, the writer is taking only pun posts with lexical and syntactical ambiguity. In identifying the words and sentences that have lexical and syntactical ambiguities the theory of Hurford et al (2007) will be applied by the writer, and for the explanation of the ambiguity effects as well as the theory of Kreidler (1998) about the two lexical relations, homonymy and polysemy, and the theory of Simpson (2004) will be applied as well. From the study analysis, the writer finds out that some of data taken are mostly lexical other than syntactical ambiguity.
