Abstract
The phenomenon of dating violence shows increasing prevalence lately and the impact is significance to the adolescence development. Therefore, it is important to find out the influence factors. This research focusing on dating violence based on attachment theorem of Hazan and Shaver (1978). The aim is to examine empirically of the influence of adult romantic attachment styles on the tendency of conducting dating violence, and specifically between avoidant attachment and anxiety attachment. The population in this research consist of high school adolescent who had or in relationship at least 3 months, lives in Surabaya, and age range 15 to 18 years old. However, sample to be used in this undergraduate thesis are 68 adolescents which are 47 boys and 21 girls. As data collection instruments to be used for this research are questionnaires of avoidant attachment and anxiety attachment translated from Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R; Fraley, Shaver, & Brennan, 2000). For the tendency of conducting dating violence was measured by Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI; Wolfe, et al., 2001). The data is then analyzed using hierarchical regression with two predictors. The result of this reseacrch shows that anxiety attachments impact significantly to the involvement on dating violence, while avoidant attachment is not significant. The contextual factor, that is caregiving culture, is one of the important factors that can explain the research conclusion.
