Abstract

To present good subtitles, subtitlers need to apply the right principles and strategies when translating the source video to the target audiences. In translating a documentary video, it requires the ability to create an equivalent translation and understandable to the target audience. In this report, an English documentary video with 47 minutes long was analyzed by using Alan Duff's principles theory Mona Baker's strategies theory. 50 utterances were selected randomly and source language influence is the principle that appears most often. Meanwhile, omission is the most used translation strategy.
