Abstract

Translating is a way to deliver message or information to the readers. However, there is one significant problem in translating a certain language feature, known as onomatopoeia. In this research, the researcher, would like to analyze, the onomatopoeia types and translation methods applied in the comic book. The object of this study is Smurf The Astrosmurf comic book. By using qualitative method, this study uses two version of the comic book, English and Indonesian version as a source of data. This study applied Thomas and Clara theory on types of onomatopoeia and translation method suggested by Zanettin in analyzing the data. As the result, three types of onomatopoeia were present and rewriting is the dominant method used in Smurfs TheAstrosmurf comic books. Intersystemic translation is crucial to avoid the difference misunderstanding between two different languages.
