Abstract
This study discusses the way Republika constructs the concept of pornography toward RUU APP 2006-2007 through its news. The data is analyzed critically using Critical Discourse Analysis developed by Norman Fairclough. In this way, this study uses qualitative methodology with eight articles as samples taken from Republika. The analysis on the articles under study reveals that Republika constructs pornography concept in the reader’s mind through three strategies: the definition of pornography, the cause of proliferation of pornography and its effect and the classification of punishment. In this case, Republika always tries to connect its construction and the Bill itself since it supports this Bill in order to be legalized as soon as possible. In general, Republika takes body, especially women’s body, as core line of its news about this Bill. Women’s body can be exploited as matter of pornography and pornographic-action in which it can finally dehumanize the women themselves. Pornography and pornographic-action are also deemed able to destroy morality of Indonesian people. Regarding this effect, Republika blames media as the distributing-agent of pornography and pornographic-action.
