Abstract

This paper examines an aspect of cinematic representation of the Orientalist content in the Hollywood film, The Mummy Returns. Film becomes a new media to express idea nowadays, and Hollywood use their films as the media to show some actions on this world. Orientalism has been found in several Hollywood films, and the writer wants to analyze one of The Mummy Trilogy, The Mummy Returns which shows orientalist construction in several actions, events, and characters. The representation of several main characters portrays the superiority of the western, while the other side, the eastern characters are portrayed as cruel and weak. Besides, there is motivation from western character as a heroine to come into Egypt, as Edward Said’s statement that Orient as European invasion. At the end of this study, the writer concludes that there are orientalism constructions in The Mummy Returns, and it can be seen from some cinematographic aspects contained in the movie.
