Abstract

People on their life always have an ambition. It is also shaped by their environment, their family, society, and also psychological needed. As it is also become human‟s aim to get „something‟, which is reflected toward their ambition. These ways will lead them into the ultimate finding of their life, which is supported by the environmental situation and psychological condition that some of them will have their answer when they walk whether on the good side or bad side. This phenomenon of searching the meaning of their life, specifically the meaning of prestige, also can be found in Christopher Priest‟s The Prestige. This novel is telling about two young magicians that obsessed one to another. But this kind of obsession makes them become turn in a wrong side, and their ambition leads them into a deadly ending. The ambition in this novel will be analyzed through new criticism theory to see the main problem deeply and clearly. The conclusion of this work is the ambition will occur in two condition, whether it comes to support the bad thought or in vice versa. It is depending to the people that use their ambition; in any case the ambition also has to be controlled so the action that will appear is based on a healthy mind, not in the state of being controlled of ambition.
