Abstract

Literary work is the reflection of human feeling that influenced by the social structure of the author. The author is part of society, possessed of a specific social status. He receives some degree of social recognition and reward, and he addresses an audience. “Heroic Stanzas” is poem by John Dryden that written after the funeral of Oliver Cromwell. It is assumed that its poem is influenced by social structure of John Dryden. Indeed, through this study the writer would like to analysis John Dryden’s world view in the poem “Heroic Stanzas” and what the relation between social structure and structure of the poem “Heroic Stanzas”. The genetic structuralism is applied in the analysis to answer the research question. Goldmann says that studying literary text need to consider to the work that attached to the social condition around the writer and then to the individual who wrote it. The method of library research is used in collecting data. And the data analyzed by Golmann’s dialectic method. The study finds that the world view of the poem is the settlement of Oliver Cromwell and the relation between social structure and structure of the poem is John Dryden influenced by the world view of his environment that talked about the settlement of Oliver Cromwell which be inspired him to write ‘Heroic Stanzas’ as his response for the settlement of Oliver Cromwell.
