Abstract
The interesting part of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender Is The night is on Dick Diver's failures that make him sink into pessimism. In this thesis, the writer analyzes Dick Divers causes of pessimism that has destroyed his life and influencing the people close to him; and the psychological background of Dick Diver as well as an ordinary human being Dick also has limits facing. his own problems. Dick is not strong enough, he looks for an escape forget his problems; but there is no answer to solve his problems. The conflicts of the characters are caused by the relation between characters, in this case Dick Diver and all his problems. Dick Diver's. conflicts are caused. by his dream that he wants to become a rich man and successful as a psychiatrist. He can not fullfil his dream but he marries a rich mental illness woman, Nicole Warren. Although Dick Diver gets the richness from his wife, there is something lacking in his life. He can not become a doctor-husband for his wife; since his wife's illness can not be cured. Ironically, Dick Diver 'needs and wants to live his own life, cures his wife and walks on his profession. His suffers make him want to run from his own life. He becomes uncertain about his life.
