Abstract

Family support of the exclusive breasthfeedingis a form of assistance forthe benefit of breasthfeeding mothers, so mothers may feel the presence of thosewho pay attention and love her in providing exclusive breasthfeedingto theirchildren. In overcoming the existing problem families need other who havesimilar problems, exchanging ideas to solve these problems through peer groupsupport. This study aims to determine the effect of peer group support on familysupport in exclusive breasthfeeding.This research was an experimental study with one group pre-and post-testdesign using purposive sampling. The samples involved were families that did notsupport mothers in exclusive breasthfeedingin Community Health Center Nita,District of Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara, in according with inclusion criteria,comprising 19 persons. Respondents consisted of one group alone. Theindependent variable was peer group support, and the dependent variable wasfamily support in exclusive breasthfeeding. Data were obtained usingquestionnaire. Data were tabulated and analyzed, and then SUbjectedto statisticaltests using Wilcoxon signed rank test.The results after the implementation of peer group support revealed thatthe respondents who gave positive support were 74%, and respondents who gavenegative support were 26%. Statistical test resultonrespondents who providedpeer group support had p :0.000. There was significant increaseinrespondentswho provided the intervention.This study explains that peer group support is necessary to be provided tofamilies to increase its support for exclusive breasthfeeding.
