Abstract

Incision wounds in hospitalized patients do not all healed completely and some even second complication. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ethanol extract of pineapple peels (Ananas Comosus L. Merr) on healing incision wounds in white rats (Rattus norvegicus). This research applied true experiment. The population consisted of 60 male white rats divided into four treatment groups of pineapple peel extract doses 5%,10%,15%, and 20% and two control groups were positive control with povidone-iodine 10% and negative control with gel base. Incision wounds are made on the back of white rats with length of 2 cm and depth to subcutis. The independent variable was pineapple peel extract and the dependent variable was incision wound healing. The treatment was 14 days. Data collection was performed by observing the healing process in the inflammatory phase (erythema, edema, and wound fluid) and proliferation phase (granulation tissue and wound edges joining). Data were then multivariate analyzed and Duncan test with significance level of p<0,01. The results showed that the ethanol extract of pineapple peel dose 5%,10%,15%, and 20% had significant differences in the positive and negative control groups on the wound healing process with difference of erythema (p=0,001), edema (p=0,000), and wound edge joining (p=0,000). It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of pineapple peel was effective to accelerate the healing process of white rat incision wound with the most effective dose of 10% in day 12.
