Abstract

Xenogears is a Japnese Role Playing Game that is developed in the last 1999. The video game is created by Tetsuya Takahashi, developed and published by Square.co.ltd. It gain a critical acclaim, citing a lot of reference in philosophies, religion and psychological concept. It became one of the video game that sold one million copies in the Play Station era. Considerinng many references to mythologies and religion, the researcher wanted to examine and decode the religious symbol that is contained in Xenogears Stories. How the concept of religion applied in a sci-fi concept. Especially in Japanese game that is culturaly has a different understanding in the concept of religion. This research will find and analyze the religion symbol especially in Abrahamic religion. The symbol found, then analyze using the theories of connotation and denotation by Rolan barthes to find the construction of those religion symbols inside the game and their significance and meanings
