Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethyl acetate fraction of semanggi leaves in increasing the number of neurons in menopausal mouse brain model. The subjects of this study were female strain BaJB I c mjce. For menopausal modeling, mice were induced osteoporosis by dexamethasone for 28 days. All mice were divided into five groups: the negative control group (CMC-Na suspension), the positive control group (Aiendronate Suspension), and three groups administered at three different doses of ethyl acetate fraction, which were 0.23 mg I 20 g BW dose ( Ul), 0.46 mg I 20 g ofBW dose (U2), and 0.92 mg / 20 g ofBW dose (U3) after dexamethasone induction. The administration of the fraction was performed for 28 days. Afterwards the mice were sacrificed and the brains were analyzed. The results showed no significant differences for all control and treatment groups. The average of increasing neuron (Jun) on negative control group, positive control group, test group 1, test group 2, test group 3 were 124.40 ± 2930; 154.95 ± 14.66; 150.27 ± 26.41; 146.87 ± 27.03; 129.70 ± 21.34 respectively. Based on the results, the number of neurons of the positive control group was higher than the negative control group and the treatment group showed decreased of neurons, but still greater than the negative group. The results showed no significant difference (p > 0,05) by one way ANOV A. Conclude that the fraction of ethyl acetate of semanggi leaves increase the number of neurons in the female brain of menopausal model.
