Abstract

This study aims to discuss Anna’s survival attempt in the novel entitled—The Woman in the Window, written by A.J. Finn. The novel presents the impact of the traumatic experience in Anna Fox as the main character in the novel. The writer used the New Critical approach to carry out a qualitative study by employing a textual analysis of the novel as the object. The primary data were collected from the object through a close-reading technique. In the process, the writer analyzes how the chosen formal elements such as characterization, plot, setting, and symbols work together as an organic unity to support the theme, which is about Anna’s survival attempt after the death of her family. This study shows how Anna’s courage towards Ethan made her realize that a traumatic experience is not the end of life and living in trauma was a waste of time which made her decide to accept what happened and try to continue her life again.
