Abstract
Background: Tooth loss is a common case in dental clinics. Tooth loss can be replaced with fixed dentures, removable partial dentures (RPDs), or implants. However, a dental treatment with RPDs is more attractive to public than fixed dentures and implants. RPDs can generally be classified into four types, namely class I, class II, class III, and class IV. Nevertheless, RPDs classified into Kennedy class I and class II have more problems than RPDs class III and class IV. Objective: This study is aimed to determine the satisfaction of users of acrylic removable partial dentures classified as Kennedy class I and II in Prosthodontics clinic of RSGMP, Universitas Airlangga. Methods: Respondents of the study were thirty-eight patients who had been treated at Prosthodontics clinic of RSGMP, Universitas Airlangga in January 2013 - September 2014. Those patients then were interviewed and asked to fill questionnaires related to the satisfaction of RPDs users. Results: Based on the result data, it is known that 69.42% of respondents were satisfied with RPDs, while 31.58% of the respondents were dissatisfied. It is also known that the satisfaction rate was influenced by retention (p = 0.023), speech function (p = 0.006), chewing function (p = 0.000), and stability (p = 0.004), which has a value of p <0.05. Meanwhile, factors that did not influence the level of satisfaction were aesthetic (p = 0.159), experience (p = 0.161), sex (p = 0.693), jaw position (p = 0.446), and Kennedy classification (p = 0.748) with p> 0.05. Conclusion: The overall respondents are satisfied with the RPDs used. It is also known that factors mostly affecting the level of satisfaction of the respondents are retention, stability, chewing function, and speech function.
