Abstract
Caring is a professional conduct of nurses in providing nursing care based on intellectual abilitycaring which are friendly, full of empathy, courtesy, giving therapeutic communication, calling names, and sensitive to the patient's complaint, to provide the best service for the patients. Caring behavior will provide satisfaction for patients and families. Patient satisfaction is related to the quality of hospital services. The purpose of this study was to explain the correlation between patient family's level of satisfaction and caring behavior of nurses in providing nursing care based on Jean Watson's theory in Bona 1 Pediatric Ward, Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. This study used analytic design with cross sectional method. Population was families of patients undergoing inpatient treatment at Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya, especially in Bona 1 Pediatric Wards. Sample comprised 35 respondents taken by purposive sampling. Data were taken by using questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Spearman's statistical test with significance value ρ< 0.05. The results of this study showed significant correlation between level of satisfaction and nurse caring behavior in providing nursing care, indicated with p = 0.003. In conclusion, level of satisfaction has a significant correlation to nurse caring behaviors. Therefore, nurses need more caring behavior to improve patients' satisfaction.
