Abstract

Infant mortality rate is a problem in Indonesia. Improved breastfeeding practice is one of key factors contributes to lower infant mortality rate. But, breastfeeding practice has not been implemented as well as we hoped. Therefore, we have to decrease infant mortality rate by increasing community's nutritional status using breastfeeding program continously. This study is an analytical study with cross-sectional design. This study used implementation of breastfeeding program as independent variable and mother's behavior on breastfeeding practice on infants 0-3 months old as dependent variable. Mother's behavior are evaluated using knowledge, attitude, practice, and breastfeeding technique. This study uses 58 respondent which divided into implementation group and control group. The instruments used for evaluation are questionnaire and check list which have been proven its validity and realibility. Data analysis using chi-square and fisher exact test if it doesn't meet the requirements for chi-square test. P-value for every aspect of knowledge is 0.048; attitude 0.033; practice 0.003 and breastfeeding technique 0.016. Because p < 0.05 it concluded that there is an effect of breastfeeding program implementation and mother's behavior on breastfeeding practice on infants 0-3 months old. With the implementation of the breastfeeding program, the mother's breastfeeding practice would also increase. This will support the success of exclusive breastfeeding target.
