Abstract

The implementation of nurses tasks in hospital is important in providing better services to patients. Such tasks, however, have shifted from routine activities to imaginative ones that emphasize on fulfilling market needs. In competitive situation and in order to be survived in globalization era, an organization should pay attention to the aspect of acceleration, flexibility, integration and innovation. One of strategies prepared by RSUD Dr. Soetomo is carrying out training program to empower or improve the ability and work ethic of its manpower. Besides, the program is expected to produce manpower that is able to face for adapt to any change of era or situation. However, the implementation of the results of the training is absolutely dependent upon the attitude or behavior of the manpower, which must be deeply considered by the management. In this case, the quality of work life involving support from management, work invironment, motivation and internalization should be improved. Despite some limitations that hinder the quality of their work life, the nurses in pavilion RSUD Dr. Soetomo are judged to be competent enough to carry out their duties. The role of the management is significant to improve the quality of work life and to create better relation with the nurses. To improve the performance of the nurses, the system of performance improvement should be well arranged. This means the system of management of organizational performance would help to improve their tasks performance. Without support from the management, the task would not be able to be carried out optimally. Based on the result of the research, it is inferred that the participation of the management, work invironment, and motivation given have significant influence on the implementation of the nurses main tasks. On the other hand, internalization has no significant influence on it; this may be due to the cultural factor. Finally it can be concluded that the nurses in carrying out their duties need better quality of work life that involves support from management, work environment and motivation. However, the improvement of manpower may strategically overcome the main problem namely implementation of the tasks which become their responsibility.
