Abstract
This study aims to explain the diffusion of innovation in free school transportation services in Tulungagung Regency. The background of this study is an increase in the number of accidents and violations involving school students. So that Tulungagung District made an innovation for free school transportation services. In this study, to explain the diffusion of innovation used the theory of Everett M Rogers (2003), to see the innovations of innovation can be seen from the characteristics of innovation, communication channels, and type of adopter for free school transportation services. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive type. Determination of informants using purposive techniques. While data collection is done by interviewing, observing, and documenting techniques. The results of this study note that the diffusion of innovations in free school transportation services goes quite well. Characteristics of innovation in servants of free school transportation are known to have economic benefits, in accordance with the needs of school students, easy to use, can be tested and tried for free school transportation services and can observe the results of these services. The communication channel used is an interpersonal channel by involving the school and mass media through newspapers, local television, radio and electronic media. The type of adopter for free school transportation services, identified as the initial majority type. The initial type of majority is an adopter who does not directly use innovation after getting information about an innovation. This type of adopter will consider the impact of good or bad innovation before using it.
