Abstract
Speech is a part of public discourse which aims to deliver the speaker’s idea to the audiences. Nikki Haley is the US ambassador for UN who is often conduct speech in the UN Security Council meeting. This study aims to discover the most frequently used cohesion in Haley’s speeches which can help the audiences understand the idea of the speeches. Qualitative research is the approach of the current study. The main theory that is used to analyze the cohesion in the speeches is Halliday and Hasan cohesion’s theory. The result of the cohesion analysis shows that demonstrative reference and repetition are the most frequently used cohesion. The significant used of the demonstrative reference and epetition is to emphasize the speaker’s idea to make the audiences able to understand the speeches fully. In brief, cohesions that are used in Haley’s speeches are used to avoid misunderstanding.
