Abstract

Internet addiction is a pathological condition that encourages someone to use this technology excessively. Internet addiction can cause problems adolescents‘s life such as diminishing interest in daily life and social interaction problems. This study aims to determine the relationship of Internet addiction to social interaction of adolescents. Methods: This study used quantitative method with descriptive correlation design. Samples were collected by using proportional purposive sampling on senior high school in the 15-18 age range (n=215). Independent variable in this study is internet addiction and independent variables are interaction with parents, interaction with peers, interaction in the school and interaction with community. The data then analyzed using Spearman's Rho test (α <0,05). Result: Result indicated that internet addiction is correlated negatively with adolescence social interaction with parents (p=0,000), peers (p=0,000), and in the school (p=0,002) but is not correlated with social interaction in community (p=0,191). Discussion: Subsequent research is advised to pay attention to other factors that may affect social interaction other than the intensity of internet using. It can also expand the population and multiply the sample to broaden the generalization of the research.
