Abstract

Translating news is not easy. It needs time and a lot of consideration to make a good translation. There are several conclusions that the writer wants to address. The first one is about translating, which means about the usage of principles and strategies. The second one is about the obstacles during the process of translation. The last one is about the added value that the writer gets in the process of translation. The first one is about translating news, especially features. Translating features was not easy. There were several things that should be considered before start translating. The first one was the writer needed to know which principles that was going to be used to translate features. The principles helped the writer in deciding the result of the translation, whether the result should be natural to the TL readers or should introduce the author style. In this case, the writer had to make the result natural because the language culture between English and Bahasa Indonesia was different. The important thing in translating news was to make the readers understand the message that was being informed. The second one was the strategies of the translation. After deciding the principle, the writer used several strategies in order to focus on the smaller units such as sentences and words. During his internship, the writer used 8 strategies. They are transference, transposition, adaptation, addition, couplets, subtraction, cultural equivalent and modulation. Out of 22 strategies that the writer had mentioned on the first chapter, these 8 strategies were the most used strategies that he used in translating features. The strategies helped the writer in changing smaller units, which were sentences and words, in SL and matched them into TL language culture.
