Abstract
Curses are widely believed in many cultures in the world, including in Japan. InJapan, the concept of curse is believed to be capable of harming and hurting others.A practice that has existed in the history of belief in Japan is a curse ritual calledUshi no koku mairi. This ritual is widely known by the Japanese people with adoll called Waraningyo. As the times grew, this curse ritual appeared in variouspopular media with various forms, including in the anime. One anime thatdiscusses the curse is JigokuShoujo. In this anime, it is told that there is a maincharacter named Enma Ai providing a revenge service for people who have agrudge by cursing the target to go to hell through a site called jigokutsuushin,assisted by followers who are creatures called youkai. This research is aqualitative descriptive study, aimed to examine how the concept of curses andrelated things in it. The data for this study are from pictures and some dialogues inthe anime. In this research it is known that in the anime JigokuShoujo the mainelement in cursing someone is still using a waraningyo doll. In addition, theyoukai in this anime have something in common with what was posted by theJapanese people.
