Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find whether there is a correlation between psychological capital and work engagement of stay overnight installation nurse in Menur Mental Health Hospital Surabaya. Psychological capital is defined as an individual’s positive psychological state of development characterized by self efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience. While work engagement is defined as a positive, fulfilling, work-related state of mind that is characterized with the three-dimensional conceptualization of vigor, dedication and absorption in work. This research has been done to stay overnight installation nurse in Menur Mental Health Hospital Surabaya, with a total sample of 68 respondents. The tools for data collection used for this research are questionnaires, in the form psychological capital scale (28 valid items) and work engagement scale (20 valid items) which are given to 30 of pilot study respondents first. The value of psychological capital scale reliability (r) is 0,959 and the value of work engagement scale reliability (r) is 0,945. Data analysis method used in this research is non-parametric method with correlation test technique of Spearman’s Rho, with SPSS 16.0 for windows in assistance. Based on the result of research data analysis, the value of correlation coefficient between those two variables is 0,235 with significance degree amount is 0,053. These findings demonstrate that there is no correlation between psychological capital and work engagement of stay overnight installation nurse in Menur Mental Health Hospital Surabaya. 1.
