Abstract
Adultery, in most societies, is considered as a moral decadency, a threat to family stability, or to be extreme, a crime. It was caused by the failure in communication with one's spouse, the presence of other man or woman, or the disturbance of psychological disorder of those who commits adultery. Emma Bovary, the central character of Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary, is a bourgeoisie doctor's wife who always wants something more beyond her reach. She can never get enough only by living as a middle-class woman. She desperately strive to be in higher class. She is also charmed by everything related to the noble class, such as the chateau, the cloths, the way of life, and the charm of noble men. She undergoes many ways to fulfil her dream, such as adultery. From adultery, she is trapped to take a lot of debts to please her lovers, and while she commits adultery, she also abandons her duty as a wife and mother.
