Abstract

This study focused on analyzing portrayal of Indonesian celebrities' divorces in the rubric Selebriti in Tabloid Nova. This study is intended to discover the way Tabloid Nova descnbes Indonesian Celebrities' divorces and to disclose the ideology behind it by using Van Dijk Theory of text structure in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). In this paper, the writer used qualitative method which the source of the data was taken from the rubric Selebriti in Tabloid Nova of the editions from July to September, 2011 From the analysis of macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure, it showed that Indonesian celebrities' divorces in rubric Selebriti in Tabloid Nova are depicted as negative thing.Tabloid Nova describes the divorce exaggeratedly but adjusted to the nonn or beliefs existing in Indonesian society. It can be seen from its writing style which tends to exaggerate things causing the divorce by using of Coherence, the use of Sentence Form in active one to emphasize somethin& the choice of uncommon adjective words which lead to negative meaning, the use of metaphors to dramatize the divorce story and the use of Graph for highlight certain things are the findings of this study. It is clear that the main purpose of negative portrayal of celebrity divorce in Tabloid Nova is to attract the readers' attention so that they will buy the tabloid Then, when it leads to gain as much profit as possible, it can be said that Tabloid Nova refers to capitalist Ideology by providing more softnews which entertains and less information about anything else
