Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai identitas budaya masyarakat Bali dalam film Under The Tree karya Garin Nugroho. Penelitian ini menarik sebab identitas masyarakat Bali kini sedang mengalami kebingungan, karena bertarungnya banyak simbol dan pola kebudayaan. Pemilihan studi dengan menggunakan film pun dikarenakan Bali mulanya muncul dalam aneka ragam narasi visual, sinema terbukti berkuasa membentuk citra atas berbagai hal termasuk diantaranya persepsi publik atas kehadiran pulau Bali. Peneliti menggunkan teori film sebagai realitas sosial sebab film tidaklah hadir dalam ruang hampa.Metode yang digunakan ialah semiotik diskursif untuk menjelaskan bagaimana identitas budaya masayarakat Bali ditampilkan dalam film Under The Tree. Dimana peneliti menggunakan dua level dalam analisis yaitu teks berupa tanda-tanda yang muncul dalam film tersebut dan konteks berupa wacana yang lebih besar yang hadir di luar tanda tersebut. Penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa identitas budaya masyarakat Bali pada film tersebut mendobrak identitas yang selama ini dibuat oleh imajinasi bangsa barat. Identitas masyarakat Bali dalam film tersebut ditampilkan keras dan hidup berdampingan dengan polemik peperangan. Kekerasan dalam masyarakat Bali justru kerap kali terjadi antar masyarakat Bali sendiri. Kekuasaan menjadi alasan yang kuat dalam hal ini. Disamping itu anak memiliki sebuah nilai yang penting, pertama ialah mampu melanjutkan keturunan; kedua sebagai regenerasi dari orang tua; ketiga bertanggung jawab mengemban tugas religius; dan keempat ahli waris dari orang tuanya. Translation: Nugroho’s film, Under The Tree. This study is interesting because the identity of the Balinese people are experiencing confusion, because of fighting many cultural symbols and patterns. Selection of a study using the film was due Bali originally appeared in a variety of visual narrative, cinema proved ruling form the image on a variety of things including the public's perception of the presence of the island. Researchers using the theory of film as a social reality because the film is not present in a vacuum. The method used is semiotic discursive to explain how the cultural identity of the community of Bali shown in the film Under The Tree. Where researchers use two levels in the analysis that the text in the form of signs that appear in the film and the context of the larger form of discourse that is present outside the mark. This study shows that the Balinese cultural identity in the film to break identity that has been created by the imagination of the western nations. Balinese identity in the film displayed a hard and coexist with polemical warfare. Violence in the community Bali is often the case among the people of Bali itself. Power becomes strong reasons in this regard. Besides, the child has an important value, the first is able to continue the descent; both as the regeneration of the parent; The third is responsible to carry out religious duties; and the four heirs of their parents.
