Abstract

This research is intended: 1. to know the influence of the competence of Tuan Guru or Ulama (Islamic religious teacher / leader) to his leadership, to the work achievement and welfare of his subordinators; 2. to know the influence of the Ulama’s leadership to the work achievement and welfare of his subordinators; 3. to know the influence of the subordinators’ work achievement to their welfare. The data are collected by using a survey method, because there are 44 Tuan Guru or Ulama becoming leaders in this ‘Pondok Pesantren’ (Islamic traditional boarding school). Their population are very homogenous, so that 50% or equal to 22 Ulama are taken as the samples. The samples are taken under a simple random sampling technique. Those who become respondents are Permanent Teachers and School Headmasters of ‘Madrasah Tsnawiyah / MTs’ (Islamic Junior High School) and those of ‘Madrasah Aliyah / MA’ (Islamic Senior High School). The amount of respondents is determined to be at the sum 15 persons in each ‘Pondok Pesantren’. The data collecting method applied is interview by using questionnaires containing list of questions. The analysis in this research applies Partial Least Square (PLS) Analytical Method. Outputs of this research are as follows: 1. The influence of competence of Tuan Guru or Ulama to his leadership is positive, very strong and very significant. 2. The influence of Ulama’s competence to the work performance of his subordinators is positive, but very small and not significant. 3. The influence of Ulama’s leadership to the work achievement of his subordinators is positive, sufficiently big and significant. 4. The influence of Ulama’s competence to the welfare of his subordinators is positive, big and significant. 5. The influence of Ulama’s leadership to the welfare of his subordinators is positive, sufficiently big and significant. 6. The influence of the work performance of Ulama’s subordinators to their welfare is positive, sufficiently big and significant.
