Abstract

This thesis is conducted in order to analyze the position of a governess as depicted in Anne Bronte's Agnes Grey. Though the material shows many resemblance as the author herself yet she does not mean to write an autobiography. Instead she intends to express her thoughts and feelings towards the subservient role of a governess as the impact of the existence of social stratification. The writer uses the title The Subservient Role of A Governess Due To The Impact of The Social Class Distinction As Reflected in Anne Bronte 'Agnes Grey' to see the how the character, Agnes Grey, suffers from the injustice treatment on her position of a governess. The social context of the character influence to see how she has been in the different perception with her employers regarding the term 'governess'.
