Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai konstruksi identitas tahanan politik Orde Baru dalam novel Amba karya Laksmi Pamuntjak. Novel ini merupakan sebuah novel yang menggunakan setting waktu antara tahun 1950-an hingga tahun 2011, dimana banyak peristiwa sejarah berkaitan dengan Gerakan 30 September yang dimunculkan dalam cerita. Topik ini menarik mengingat masyarakat pada umumnya memiliki persepsi dan interpretasi yang relatif seragam mengenai tahanan politik dalam kaitannya dengan peristiwa Gerakan 30 September 1965. Hal ini disebabkan oleh peran berbagai media massa pada masa Orde Baru yang terbatas. Sementara itu, pada era reformasi media mendapatkan kebebasan untuk mengungkap berbagai realitas yang semula tidak bisa diungkapkan. Peneliti tertarik untuk meneliti novel ini karena novel ini merupakan salah satu media yang memiliki keberanian untuk mengungkapkan kehidupan tahanan politik Orde Baru yang semula tidak pernah dieksplor. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti melihat bagaimana identitas tahanan politik Orde Baru dikonstruksi dalam novel ini serta bagaimana konteks sosial digunakan dalam mengkonstruksi identitas tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis tekstual untuk mengungkap makna yang tersembunyi dalam teks novel tersebut. Dengan menggunakan logika analisis tekstual Thwaites, peneliti melihat bahasa yang digunakan oleh penulis, dengan menginterpretasi tanda-tanda yang diproduksi dalam sebuah teks media. Tanda-tanda ini kemudian diinterpretasi dengan makna-makna konotasi. Makna-makna konotasi ini akan menjadi makna denotasi bila argumen peneliti dan interpretasi peneliti tersebut diterima oleh khalayak sebagai sesuatu yang sesungguhnya atau realitas seperti itu adanya, yang ada akhirnya menjadi mitos yang disirkulasikan dalam masyarakat. Melalui penelitian ini, peneliti memperoleh hasil bahwa tahanan politik Orde Baru dalam kaitannya dengan Gerakan 30 September dalam novel ini dikonstruksi sebagai common enemy. Identitas ini ditunjukkan antara lain melalui gambaran diri tahanan politik Orde Baru serta posisi tahanan politik Orde Baru dalam hubungan sosial. Dalam mengkonstruksi identitas tahanan politik Orde Baru sebagai common enemy ini, penulis novel menggunakan konteks sosial antara lain kedudukan PKI dalam masyarakat Indonesia, latar belakang Peristiwa 30 September, dan kehidupan tahanan politik selama di Pulau Buru yang menunjukkan bahwa tahanan politik Orde Baru merupakan musuh bersama yang harus diperangi dan pantas mendapatkan penindasan. Translation: This research discusses about the construction of New Order politic arrests identity in Amba novel by Laksmi Pamuntjak. This novel‟s time range is between 1950‟s and 2011 and it contains some historical stories related to 30 September movement. This topic is interesting in regards that generally society has relatively homogeneous perception and interpretation about politic arrests related to 30 September movement. This is caused by the restrictions of various roles of mass media made by New Order. On the other hand, reformation era allows media to reveal the hidden reality. Researcher is interested to explore more because this novel is one among others which has bravery to reveal the lives of politics arrests in New Order which was concealed before. This research sees how New Order politic arrests identity is constructed in the novel and how the contexts of it used. This research uses textual analysis method discovers the hidden meaning of the novel. By using Thwaits‟s textual analysis logics, researcher sees the language used by the author and interprets the signs produced by media in the form of texts. The signs are then being interpreted with a connotation meaning. The connotation meaning will turn into denotation only if audience and researcher have the same arguments and interpretation about the reality of New Order politic arrests in the novel, which finally those myths are circulated among society. The result of this research shows that New Order politic arrests in its relations with 30 September 1965 movement is constructed and perceived as a common enemy in this novel. This identity is portrayed through the lives of New Order politic arrests along with their position in social relationships. In constructing this identity, the author of the novel uses social contexts such as PKI‟s existence in Indonesia, background of 30 September tragedy, and the lives of politic arrests in Buru Island which shows that New Order politic arrests are common enemies who need to be combatted and deserve oppression.
