Abstract
Fenomena globalisasi mendapatkan sebutan beraneka ragam oleh para pemikir kontemporer, salah satunya era masyarakat informasi oleh Manuel Castells. Kehadiran teknologi informasi yang mendorong terciptanya jaringan masyarakat baru merupakan gagasan yang dihadirkan melalui konsep masyarakat informasi. Penyebutan konsep masyarakat informasi yang dipopulerkan oleh Manuel Castells memiliki ciri khas untuk memandang pentingnya memperhatikan kehadiran arus-arus yang diciptakan oleh sebuah jaringan. Jaringan tersebut ternyata tidak saja dihasilkan oleh aktor negara melainkan aktor non negara, salah satunya adalah perusahaan multinasional. Jaringan bisnis perusahaan multinasional, dalam hal ini Phillip Morris International menghadirkan ilustrasi penyesuaian kultur industri rokok di Amerika dan Eropa terhadap kultur Indonesia. Penyesuaian tersebut dirangkum dalam kehadiran teknologi informasi dan substitusi tenaga kerja yang diindikasikan mengubah kesejahteraan buruh Indonesia. Muncul pertanyaan sejauh mana fenomena masyarakat informasi berpengaruh terhadap bisnis internasional, terutama terhadap kesejahteraan buruh di Indonesia.
