Abstract

Background: PT. Petrokimia Gresik apply Behavior Based Safety (BBS) in the work place as one of the efforts in managing the work accident. The BBS implementation method held by PT. Petrokimia Gresik namely behavioral safety program. Purpose: The aims of this study was to analyze the behavioral safety program with unsafe action in the Production Department II PT. Petrokimia Gresik. Method: This study used quantitative method with observational and crosssectional study design. The population of this study is 69 workers and the sample is 59 workers obtained through out formula calculation by using the simple random sampling. Data were collected using the interview with questionnaire and observation checklist. This study was done in the PT. Petrokimia Gresik in December 2014. Results: The results of this study showed that there was a correlation between behavioral safety program (pı0,008), age (pı0,050 and pı0,011), work period (pı0,044) and workers opinion toward the noise (pı0,031) with unsafe action. While other variables such education level (pı0,341), workers knowledge toward unsafe action (pı0,256), workers attitude toward unsafe action (pı0,689), work shift (pı0,058), workers opinion about illumination (pı0,262) and workers opinion about work climate (pı0,060) are not related to unsafe action. Conclusion: Management commitment and employee involvement is a supporting factor the implementation of a behavioral safety program. Joking while working and do not hold the current up and down stairs is an unsafe action that common workers. Work period is one of the factors that most influence on unsafe action. In addition to controlling unsafe actions need to pay attention to behavioral safety program variables, age, work period and the respondents' opinions of noise.
