Abstract

This thesis is a study on literature which reveals of life carried on in the studied work of art. This thesis deals with a problem of human life which always appears in daily activity, that is egoism in Eugene O'Neill's Strange inter Ind In this thesis, the writer uses objective theory and intrinsic approach to analyze the egoism of main character of the play. These theory and approach are used because of the analysis is limited on intrinsic elements, especially on plot; character and setting. Since egoism can be clasified as part of human character, then a related psychological theory and environment approach are used to support the writer's interpetation to understand the action of the character. The methodology used in this study is descriptive method and interpretative to explain and describe the content of the play, especially on plot, character and setting.
