Abstract

Eka Kurniawan’s Seperti Dendam Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas tells the main character Ajo Kawir who experiences impotence. Ajo Kawir experienced a trait change as impotent man that form complexity masculinity so that it is interesting to research. The purpose of this research, namely to find a representation masculinity over the changing traits of the main character and to interpret the dynamics masculinity and to understand the complexity masculinity shown by Ajo Kawir as impotent man. This research uses descriptive qualitative method to find the meaning of data found in novel. This research utilizes Stuart Hall representation’s theory and R.W Connell's masculinity approach. Representation theory is used to identify the shape and structure of the main character Ajo Kawir. The masculinity approach is used to find the dynamics masculinity of Ajo Kawir. Based on the problems experienced by the main character Ajo Kawir, the dynamics masculinity is found in the changing traits of Ajo Kawir in this Eka Kurniawan novel. The change traits of character Ajo Kawir as impotent man in novel is still represented as masculine man by fighting for his masculine traits. The main character Ajo Kawir is described as an impotent man who likes to fight to fight for his masculine traits. Ajo Kawir has impulsive and compulsive traits as a form of masculinity that he shows. These traits are brave, doubtful, happy, wise, and rash. The changing traits of Ajo Kawir is a form of representation masculinity that he shows. Ajo Kawir changed from an innocent, wild man to a wise man, which is a proof of the dynamics masculinity as a form of existence and responsibility in the family and society. The dynamics of masculinity shows the complexity of masculinity which means that impotent man also have masculine traits in themselves. It also changed his view of life as an impotent man.
