Abstract

This research aims to learn and investigate the competence development for the Spencer and Spencer theories (1993) in the competence characteristic, which focuses on the Self-concept competence characteristic. This concept consists of developing others (DEV), directiveness assertiveness and use of positional power (DIR), team work and cooperation (TW), team leadership (TL), interpersonal understanding (IU), dan customer service orientation (CSO). This research uses a qualitative method and a case study as a research framework. To obtain the research data, I have a depth interview with the company’s experts and utilize literature studies from the company’s reports, journal articles, and books To analyze the research data, I use the interactive model developed by Miles and Huberman. The research’s result shows that the head of the CM plant has not yet acquired the whole self-concept competence, especially the team leadership competence. To improve the head of the CM plant’s competence I suggest to use the modified job competence assessment, training, coaching, counselling, and mentoring method
