Abstract
The Unlit Lamp is a novel written by Radcly1fe Ball, one of the remarkable english writers. it deals 'With a woman named Joan. who faces several obstacles in her life daring her struggle to gain 1B dreams. Her family is the difficult kind for not giving her freedom to choose what she wants to do. Her governess, Elizabeth. is the only person who faithfully encourages her to keep trying and never gives up. Her mother is very dependent on her that she cannot make my decision :freely. Later she will have to let go her dreams for several considerations that she cannot avoid. the writer analyzes the main character using the intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the story. Intrinsically, the plot will reveal the conflicts that the main character undergoes, which greatly influence her. In order to analyze extrinsically, wlich is :from psychological and sociological aspects. the writer employs MElo'ifs humanistic theory. md Mead's theory of sociology
